Mutant Detail

Mutant Detail:
Mutant SymbolTnt148
Allele SymbolMtnin-2
Gene and Mutation LocationMtNIN (Tnt1 insertion at 20 bp upstream of MtNIN)
Symbiotic Phenotype BriefCcd- Inf+- Nod-
Phenotype DetailTnt148 is Nod-. S. meliloti did not stimulate cortical cell divisions in these mutants, even at a time point in which wild-type plants had fully formed nodules. The mutant also exhibited the characteristic nin mutant phenotype of excessive root hair curling in response to S. meliloti. The occasional infection foci and infection threads formed in Mtnin-2 indicates that this is a weaker allele compared to Mtnin-1. The mutant formed normal mycorrhizas.
Single gene targeted?yes
Extra InformationThe F1 progeny of reciprocal crosses between Mtnin-1 and Mtnin-2 were Nod- demonstrating allelism. Mtnin-1 expresses the stronger phenotype of the two alleles.
Mutagenesis MethodTransposon
Mutant ClassNod-
Allelismnot allelic to dmi1, dmi2, dmi3, nfp, nsp1, nsp2, hcl. Mtnin-1 and Mtnin-2 are allelic.
The earliest development stage known to be affectedCortical cell divisions
Wildtype LineJemalong A17
