| Allele Symbol | MtCRE1 RNAi |
|---|
| Gene and Mutation Location | MtCRE1 (RNA interference) |
|---|
| Symbiotic Phenotype Brief | Nod+- |
|---|
| Phenotype Detail | MtCRE1 RNA interference (RNAi) roots showed strong reduction in their cytokinin sensitivity and in their primary response to this hormone. These roots also showed a significant increase in lateral root development and a reduction in nodulation. In the in vitro growth conditions, 50% of the Mt CRE1 RNAi roots did not develop any nodule. Both S. meliloti infection and early nodule organogenesis are perturbed in MtCRE1 RNAi roots. |
|---|
| Single gene targeted? | yes |
|---|
| Extra Information | Cytokinin signaling mediated by a single receptor, MtCRE1, leads to an opposite control of symbiotic nodule and lateral root organogenesis. Mt NIN, Mt RR1, and Mt RR4 define a common pathway activated during early S. meliloti interaction, allowing crosstalk between plant cytokinins and bacterial Nod factors signals. |
