Silencing of CHR led to severely reduced nodulation compared with vector control roots. The use of S. meliloti cells induced for Nod factor biosynthesis did not restore nodulation in CHSi, FNSi and CHRi roots. However, supplementation of roots with Dhf restored nodulation in FNSi and CHRi roots.
